Enough Of Bad Programmes On The BBC. It Should Be Disbanded

The way the BBC top brass presides over the dumbing down of programme content on TV channels and radio stations is not just appalling – it borders on the crimional, considering that it is a waste of public money that we are talking about. Huge waste. The fact that the Corporation’s top people have been paying themselves astronomical salaries and allowing left-wing mediocrities, of all shapes and sizes, infest the Corporation’s output is a disgrace. At the moment there are practically no decent shows on BBC. None at all. Talentless, politically correct producers and scriptweriets, with a few exeptions, dominate both BBC television and radio. That is why appallingly bad shows and dramas and comedies are made and then heavily promoted by the corporation, with total disregard...

The BBC Is Playing The Impartiality Game With Gaza: What A Joke!

The BBC’s top management has come up with one of the most bizarre stunts ever: refusing to screen an appeal to raise money for the Palestinians living in Gaza. How on earth did BBC Director General Mark Thomson manage to keep a straight face when he actually announced that the decision not to broadcast the appeal was motivated by the desire to ‘safeguard the corporation’s impartiality’ in covering events in Gaza? It was like the editor of Pravda newspaper saying in the days of the Soviet Union that he was concerned by people’s perception that it was the mouthpiece of the Communist Party. This is surreal. This is something from George Orwell, or Andrey Platonov, the Russian writer, who had actually preceded Orwell in ridiculing left-wing dictatorships in the 1920s and...

Things I Do When I Drive

Gren-Hilda Duval de Villeneuve writes: These days it seems that we all have to spend much time on the road, commuting to work, schools, entertainment and home. That is a lot of time spent driving, mostly doing nothing much at all.Do not panic, I am not about to tell you that all that time could be spent in a worthwhile manner and I assure that I am not some ‘lifestyle guru’ who teaches people how to make every minute of their life count. Now that you have, hopefully, relaxed somewhat I would like to share some of my observations with you. The first one being that gazing at scenery, daydreaming, listening to music or chatting to fellow passengers in your car, is in fact, valuable. These days time spent relaxing seems to be frowned on, but I often bask in the relief of getting into my...

Sorting Out Life’s Problems. Both Big And Small

Gren-Hilda Duval de Villeneuve writes: Lately I have been finding myself really annoyed by people who do nothing but whinge and whine. We live in an unbelievably difficult times and I do have sympathy with all the misery I see around me.But up to a point. The world today, as I see it, is paced at almost the speed of light. All the old-fashioned values of loyalty, duty and friendship are, well, considered outdated and old-fashioned. Then, added into the mix, is the unholy alliance of politics, business and media. Through the ages they have always undeniably had the upper hand. All of this is certainly enough to make us despair. Now try to think clearly for a moment: why on earth are the actions of others making us feel so bad. Most people would agree that there is meaning to life, and I feel...
