The Labour Government Is Set On Destroying The Royal Mail
November 12, 2008
By Thomas Mathew: New Labour was swept into power in 1997 – it seems like they’ve been here for eternity – using as their slogan the silly words of a pathetic pop song: ‘Things can only get better!’
We were told then that Tony Blair and his Commissars were going to ‘modernise’ Britain, and to achieve that they were supposedly going to reform British institutions, which had served the nation extremely well in the past, so that they would work even better.
What a blatant lie it turned out to be. The whole idea was to dismantle these institutions and to replace them with new structures that were intended to serve Labour’s plans of turning Britain into a semi-communist province of the EU.
One of the first to come under attack by Labour was the very profitable Royal Mail. You may remember that Blair’s government even changed its name to ‘CONSIGNIA’ at a cost of £2 million. Labour ministers told us that the new name described the full scope of what the postal service did in a way that the words ‘Royal Mail’ allegedly could not. But this disgraceful stunt did not work and the name CONSIGNIA soon became a synonym for incompetence.
In no time the company ran up losses of £1.1 billion, with job cuts in excess of 15,000. It was then announced in 2002 that CONSIGNIA was to rename itself back to Royal Mail, Labour having reluctantly accepted that the original was more appropriate, as most people could not understand why the change had been made in the first place.
But the biggest blow to the Royal Mail came when Blair appointed Adam Crosier, a friend of his, to run the postal service. In a matter of a few years Crosier had turned the Royal Mail into a total disaster. But despite that, he is still there, and getting paid nearly £3 million a year.
If you thought Jonathan Ross behaved appallingly, think about the head of the Royal Mail and weep. He has presided over the closure of thousands of post offices across Britain, as well as a falling quality of service. He should have been sacked a long time ago.
I sometimes wonder whether Labour is not acting on the direct orders of Brussels, which wants to control everything in Europe, even the postal service. I say this because French protestors are now holding huge demonstrations in Paris to try and stop President Nicholas Sarkozy’s government from closing down thousands of La Poste offices in France. Unlike the British, the French are appalled by this attack on their very way of life and are expressing their anger with great passion.
Sarkozy is proving to be a total disaster on the home front, by the way. That is why he has become so active on foreign policy issues. It’s a typical trick of mediocre politicians: fail at home, start being concerned about world affairs. Look at Clinton and Blair, look at Reagan and Bush.
The local post offices in Britain do not just sell postage stamps. They have always been an important and vital part of life in villages and towns. Yet, even though millions of British people are voicing their protests against the plans to axe more post offices, the slaughter continues.
It has been revealed recently that Gordon Brown’s government is intent on closing many more thousands of post offices in order to modernise the service and to make it profitable once again. It has signalled that it was considering taking away many of the profitable functions of Royal Mail and giving them to a private operator. And it is happening during a time of recession and rising unemployment.
I’ll tell you something: this Labour government is against us. We need to kick it out as soon as possible.
