Retail Sales Went Up In Britain Between October And November. The Shoppers Must Be Mad
December 19, 2008
Who are these people who have contributed to the rise of the retail sales figures in Britain between October and November by 0.3 percent? Are they completely bonkers? What are they thinking about? Because I can bet you most of them have been buying on plastic, as they could not have had any spare money left.It is just crazy, absolutely crazy.
This spending spree, coming at a time of a fierce recession, resembles a feast during a plague. You know, let’s eat as much as possible now and then hope that something will come up and we will survive the plague. Or, in this case, let’s buy stuff we don’t need for Christmas and hope that some money will come our way next year.
No, it won’t. There’ll be no money coming next year. None at all. Instead there’ll be threatening letters landing on your door mat and phone calls coming from credit card companies, demanding payments. There’ll be bailiffs knocking at your doors and repossession orders issued by courts.
The country is bankrupt and the people running it have absolutely no idea of what to do to save the economy. And you know why I know this: because they have sleep-walked into this crisis and even a few months ago were still refusing to accept that there were serious problems in the economy. They kept talking about some ‘downturn’ and some ’slowdown’.
It now resembles a situation on a sinking ship, when the captain and the first mate – Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling – have spent all the time drinking and partying and, when the ship finally hit the reef, they are only thinking of saving themselves rather than the passengers.
But the most embarrassing thing of all is how the retailers and the media have colluded together to lure shoppers in. Numerous articles are published in newspapers and countless reports are shown on TV news bulletins alleging that many shoppers are still intent on buying things, even thought everyone knows that it gets them into debt even more. Furthermore, there are constant reports about supposed discounts of up to 50 and even 70 per cent on prices across the board on many items in the retail sector.
I sent a couple of my people to different stores in London and they came back saying that the big cuts in prices were on items that no one would really want to buy or on clothes in very small sizes, whereas most goods were either cut just by a few percent or were sold at normal prices.
Now I would like to ask these reporters, who go out there and supposedly discover cases of huge discounts in stores: have you lost your minds? Or lost all of your shame? What are you trying to do: ruin people completely? Are you that desperate to hold on to your jobs? Well, let me tell you something: you might hold on to them for a while, but you will pay the price in the end. Because you credibility will be zero soon. Zero! You can’t build your prosperity, as they say, on other people’s losses. It just doesn’t work like that.
There is of course a reason why journalists misinform their readers. It is this time of year when newspapers get all those advertising revenues from the retailers. I have counted 42 (!) ads on one day alone in one national newspaper this week for retail stores, including full page spreads and double spreads, announcing bargains in stores. So this would explain why that particular publication, that prides itself on its integrity, has sold its soul to the retail trade.
Some of the hacks even stoop as low as to call on their readers to go out there and spend, spend, spend. This is bordering on the criminal! How can these journalists dare to think that they can get away with it? They are prostitutes, nothing more. They should be punished by the readers in the future, who should simply ignore them and their publications. Just like they should ignore all the newspapers that are continuing to advertise banks, financial companies and, especially, credit card companies.
Walk away from these newspapers, people. Let them suffer the indignity of closure and sackings for their disgraceful behaviour.
