A Passionate Comment From One Of Our Readers
August 1, 2009
We have received a passionate comment to our article on charity from one of readers in South Africa and we decided to post it as a separate piece. Here it is:
Maybe you have opened a floodgate, but here goes. Your discussion on charity had me thinking how awful it is that we are so scared of getting personally involved, and the worst thing is that we are right to be cautious. I do not give money, unless I know the charity well, which is possible as I am from a small town, but will give food to a feeding scheme, for example.
It also made me think of something else you wrote, about the older you get, the less friends you need. My husband and I have always felt that way, as friends always seem to end up causing grief. But how awful is it that we can’t make connections with each other, without complications. In regards to political correctness, how is it that the ‘rights’ of ‘mothers’ are upheld, to have as many children as they like even though they are mentally or financially unstable or both. How problematic is this? I wish there was control, yet I balk at being controlled. My mixed feelings also apply to abortion. I know I would never be able to make that choice, and it’s actually a societal problem because if we weren’t so immoral that wouldn’t have to be a choice that would have to be considered.
But those anti-abortionists with their ‘thou shalt not’ raise my hackles. Oh well, that was my rant and in at least one aspect I don’t have mixed feelings, most politicians are evil, stupid or both and ditto the banks!
Regards, Gren-Hilda
