The McCanns Are A Nasty Couple. But A Reflection Of Our Times
R.F.Wilson writes from London: How dare the McCanns take us all for idiots! The have effectively commercialised child abduction, manipulating the press to the full, and now they have the nerve to insist that the media was harassing them and intruding into their personal life.
If Kate and Gerry McCann, who have become a double act of sorts, had any common sense they wouldn’t have appeared at the Leveson inquiry today, to give their account of how the press hounded them. They should consider themselves lucky that they were not prosecuted both in Portugal and Britain for child neglect. And the supposedly hostile media that they now blame for their distress and suffering actually gave them an easy ride, considering that their daughter Madeleine had vanished when they were having a meal with their friends.
Some people wonder why is it that this otherwise unremarkable couple is treated as if they are some sort of celebrities. Well, let me tell you why it happened: first of all, the McCanns have used the media to the full, behaving as if everyone else was to blame for Madeleine’s disappearance but not them. And, secondly and more importantly, the Anything Goes mafia that has become mighty powerful in recent decades is promoting them hard, basically saying that parents should think about themselves first and about the their children second and third. The message is: go party and enjoy yourselves and leave your kids to themselves. No worries, you’re f..king worth it!
Lord Justice Leveson, who is obviously not suited to head an inquiry into the ethics of the British media, simply because the legal profession has an instinctive dislike for hacks, should have asked the McCanns several very simple question as they were telling their weepy stories. How come you, folks, decided to leave your three small children all by themselves, even though you were offered the services of a nanny? Didn’t you realise that you were breaking the law by leaving three small kids unattended? How is it that the social services in Britain have not yet taken your two small children into care on the basis of your neglect? And, finally: how could you get over you shock so quickly as to start writing a diary and hire all those PR people, not to mention having your own personal spokesman?
These would have been hard-hitting questions for the McCanns and for the general public to chew on. But the whole inquiry seems to be running according to the script written by the politically correct brigade that wants the hearings to be turned into a bashing of the press, so that afterwards Lord Leveson would rule that there’s too much press intrusion into the lives of celebrities and politicians and that no one should be allowed to go beyond the press releases of their agents. Make no mistake: most celebs and politicians are lowlifes, who have very nasty hobbies that they would like to keep secret. That’s why they want their privacy to be protected when they want it but still have the right to plug themselves when it suits them.
Bur back to the McCanns: they seem to be coping with their grief well, despite the gloomy expressions that they made their trademark. It’s not yet clear whether the sex drive that they lost after Madeleine had disappeared – as described by Kate herself in her own book – is back, but hands were held, as usual, and that look was there as well, as in: ‘We don’t care what people think about us, but we’ll continue to raise money to finance the search for our Maddie.’
Nasty couple. But a reflection of our times, if you ask me.

The analysis of child sedation is interesting as Kate claims in her book the abducter came on two separate nights , the second night taking Maddie with him as a gesture ! The night of May 2nd when cots were in separate rooms only to be moved on May 3rd some might suggest to stage an abuction !
Kate claims the abdutcor entered the apartment May 2nd drugged the children, left and retruned the following night drugged them again and abducted Maddie….honest to God this is what she wrote in her book.
No one did more then the NotW to string along the British public with this ludicrous abduction folklore which is why I was stunned to see the ‘deadly duo’ kick them in the teeth today. Who remembers Code Madeleine a daft idea thought up by someone at the NOTW but then the McCanns have betrayed their own child so Murdoch should not really be too surprised by todays betrayal.

Tell it to her parents, because while they were telling us that no proof any harm had come to Maddie, seems Kate was looking for respect to be shown to a GRIEVING mother. If no harm had come to Maddie, why was she grieving.

Laughable! If he was drugging them during his dry run, why wouldn’t the abduction take place that night instead of exiting and hoping for that “small window of opportunity” the following night?!
Ludicrous. I don’t think they care how ridiculous they sound though. Their performance at Leveson suggests to me that they know they’re untouchable.
Anything Goes – except it seems criticising the McCanns. The number of child neglect supporting celebrities, as well as unenlightened members of the public, decrying any criticism of them on Twitter was depressing. “Haven’t they suffered enough?” “They made a mistake and they’re paying for it”. Er, no, I think we all know who paid that price.
Jeremy Vine on his Radio 2 show suggested the fluids in the car came from chicken. Chicken!!! Has anyone heard this before or did JV just make it up on the spot? Nina Myskow on the same show called the criticism vile and abusive and suggested we should “get help”. Thought police, anyone? Another of our country’s ills.
I’d love to know what journalists think of them in private, given they’re probably privy to information that isn’t, and can’t be put in the public domain as the McCanns have the mighty Carter Ruck on their side.Grrrr! I could rant bout this all day.It will be interesting to see how our press cover their libel trial in Lisbon in February. I hope Amaral’s legal team have taken note of Gerry’s strong belief in freedom of speech.

All said above is pretty much true. The McCanns’ have constantly courted media attention in their “search” for Madeleine. What have they actually done as regards actual searching? Employed 2 fraudulent detective angencies and a non trading ltd company.

I find is totaly wrong that the McCanns have been allowed to take part in the Phone Hacking Inquiry. They were not hacked & are only appearing to help stiffle any further investigation into their nefarious activities by those parts of the media who have cottoned on to the fact that there is evidence to connect them to their daughters disapearence in the now archived files of the PJ .It will be a Travesty if they receive a penny more in payouts from the Media, they allready have millions in a fund with which they are supposedly to use to find their daughter & just to remind you all , the Fund is Not a Registered Charity but a Private Fund which they control & have No obligation to use Only to find Maddie!

The whole Leveson Inquiry is, in my view, a farcical waste of time at best. The conclusion will be quite simple and practically inevitable, “The current laws are sufficient, and should’ve been enforced”.
“If they had any common sense they’d know never to have gone to the Leveson enquiry”. Really? If a court asks you to attend, then normally you have no choice but to attend. Otherwise guess what happens if you don’t turn up for court. Nothing hilarious about two parents whose child has gone missing. I bet you’ll be laughing at funerals or cancer patients next. Never knew you stooped so low. Good luck with that.
The level of vitriol directed at the McCanns has almost caused me to lose faith in humanity. I don’t agree with their ‘child-care’ arrangements either, but that does not mean that I damn them to a life in hell for what ended up to be a tragic error of judgement. Most people would do all in their power to get their child back under such circumstances and the McCanns should not be blamed for the time in history during which their child went missing. Madeleine McCann was the first child from a First World Western country to go missing under such circumstances since the advent of the internet as the primary mode of communication. That is why this case has got the amount of attention it has. It was not ‘masterminded’ by the McCanns, who appear to be the most reluctant celebrities I’ve ever seen. It is obvious, if you really listen to everything they say in their interviews, that the only reason for the publicity, from their point of view, is to find Madeleine. The McCanns are not part of the population that wants their fifteen minutes of fame at any cost. The nasty vitriol, hatred, envy and bitterness that spews forth from parts of the population that have no qualms about kicking people who are already down, says a lot more about those making the comments than it does about Kate or Gerry McCann.
Otelia Styles, until there is evidence against the McCanns they are Innocent & poor Maddie must be considered as missing , fate unknown. However given the reliability of the Cadaver Dog’s detection of the scent of death in their holiday flat & in their rental car, such evidence can not be overlooked nor can it be explained away by the McCanns defense team, thus we have a dielemma – not enough evidence either way to prove anything but enough evidence to suspect the child died in that flat. Suspicion is not proof, lets hope for a positive outcome & that Maddie is found alive & well in the near future !
