Will The UN Be Sanctioning Wars And Regime Change From Now On?

February 2, 2012

Anton Goryunov writes from New York: Let’s be controversial about Syria for a change. Serious goings on continue, in and around it, with the West and the dictators from the Arab League rubbing their hands in anticipation of another triumph of democracy and all the benefits that come with it for everyone concerned. Apart from the locals, that is, who would be paying the price for years to come.

How do I know this? Well, I only need to cast a glance at Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, to figure out what awaits the Syrians if democracy is exported there. The beauty of the whole thing is that since Libya every invasion of a country would from now on be blessed by the United Nations that is run by a bunch of corrupt and incompetent diplomats who would do anything to keep their cushy jobs for as long as possible. So from now on any time the UN gets a nod and a wink from Washington and the rest of the gang that another tyrant needs to bite the dust for freedom to triumph, a resolution would be rubberstamped authorising the use of force. In fact, this is going on now as you read this, with the West pushing for the UN Security Council to give it the green light to take out President Bashar al Assad.

So, having left a mess in Libya that is currently saddled with another lot of dictators who have no regard for democracy and human rights, the West is now gunning for Syria. All of a sudden the fate of ‘innocent civilians’ in Libya that had been pre-occupying Western leaders only a couple of months ago is no longer relevant, even though reports about torture of prisoners and gangs of former rebels terrorising whole towns in Libya abound. But it’s the people of Syria that politicians in Washington, London, Paris and Berlin are losing sleep over these days. The body count is monitored daily, with the latest figure of deaths standing at five and half thousand. Even though no one can verify this and no one knows how many of these are dead soldiers and policemen and people targeted by protesters.

The disturbing thing is that no one even bothers to pretend anymore that promoting democracy is actually all about regime change and grabbing the assets of other nations, with the free press having turned into a propaganda machine for the governments. Western hacks have proven their loyalty to politicians in Libya and they are at it again in Syria.

Meanwhile the UN is making all the right noises about Syria and Iran as well, to keep up the pressure on Damascus and Tehran, instead of trying to actually resolve both crises, while the prostitutes from the Arab League betray another one of their own, in the vain hope that they would be spared the same fate.

The thing is that under ban Ki Moon the UN has lost all its cred. You have to be really thick to treat this gathering seriously. It’s corrupt, it’s incompetent, it’s ineffective and it should never have been based in the US, simply because of the bias that it creates. Not fit for purposes would be the best description of it. Be gone, I say.

–End–
