War On Drugs? What War Would That Be?

February 3, 2012

The Drug Mafia Has Become Too Powerful. It Is Time To Hit BackR.F.Wilson writes from London: Are you into conspiracy theories? I’m not a fan myself, to be honest. I’m more into cock-ups really, believing that most things go wrong as a result of stupidity, incompetence and bad planning by politicians, diplomats and the military. But one thing has been making me suspicious for years: how come the war on drugs never seems to change anything?

You know what I think? I think there’s a powerful lobby that operates throughout the whole world and does everything possible to promote and glamorise drugs. You just need to look at the way drug taking is presented in the movie and music industries, on television and radio, in books and newspapers and even by politicians and the medical profession to realise that a massive campaign in under way to get people to accept drugs as part of life. The numbers of addicts are exaggerated by so-called ‘experts’, to brainwash everyone into believing that drugs are now used by so many people that we just have to accept that there’s nothing anyone can do about it.

Western governments are suspiciously reluctant to crack down on the drug trade, finding every possible way of relaxing punishment for people caught using and selling drugs. The word is that drug taking is rife among the legal profession – so that would explain the soft sentences. Not forgetting that most drug addicts are treated as victims, rather than the lowlifes they really are, and escape with small fines or no punishment at all.

But of course the main promoters of drugs are based in the entertainment world. Have you noticed how more and more films and books and plays are now devoted to drugs? As if it’s something that everyone is keen on knowing about. Have you ever met anyone who was keen on seeing punks sniffing coke or shooting heroin up their veins? I bet you haven’t, but if you look at films that come out you’d think that millions are obsessed with dope – that and f..king and killing people.

And it doesn’t stop there. The moment some movie actress or actor, pop star, TV or radio presenter gets caught using dope or confesses to having a drug problem, he or she gets support from all over the place. Offers of work start flooding in and it seems that celebrities are required to acknowledge drug taking – to boost their careers. Recently Brad Pitt came out as a former drug addict all of a sudden, telling tales of how he smoked weed and got high every day. Brad, you see, is getting on with the years and needs a bit of a boost to get those offers to star in films coming in, the creep.

The power of the drug lobby got stronger with the years. It now has come to a situation when it’s no big deal for politicians to acknowledge that they’ve ‘experimented’ with drugs – only for everyone to nod their heads and say, ‘Well, everyone’s doing it now, so why not our political rulers.’ I still remember the day when six cabinet ministers in Labour government in Britain all came out, confessing to have used drugs in the past. And no one said a word about it. They were actually treated as is they were heroes.

And another thing: how could it have happened that when Western troops invaded Afghanistan in 2001 it was hardly registering on the international drug trade’s radar, but now, more than 10 years later, it provides the world with 95 per cent of opium? Heroin has become so cheap on the streets of European cities that practically anybody can buy it now.

It couldn’t have happened without the drug mafia having a say in this. Western governments can’t seriously claim that are unable to influence the drug trade in Afghanistan? Some people in the corridors of power are obviously playing their evil games. They have successfully blocked all suggestions of tackling the drug trade in Afghanistan by buying the crops from the farmers and destroying them. They ridiculed these proposals on the basis that taxpayers’ money should not be used to buy illegal drugs, as if anyone was suggesting selling them onwards. The irony was that no one objected to using even more taxpayers’ money to send troops to Afghanistan, while effectively protecting the drug dealers.

And the same strange logic applies to the so-called ‘war on drugs’ that is supposedly waged by law enforcement agencies in the West. What war on drugs would that be? Because the drug trade in the Western world has been going from strength to strength in the past 50 years, and nobody seemed to be able to anything about it. It can only mean that the powerful drug lobby influences the way law enforcement agencies and the judiciary operate.

The most powerful nation in the world, the United States, that can project its military force thousands of miles away, is unable to stop the drug shipments coming into the country from Central and Latin America. The only explanation is that the drug cartels have their people in Washington who block any serious attempts to destroy the drug trade. It would have been great if President Barack Obama made the war on drugs his top priority, especially as young black people are the biggest victims of drugs in American cities. But the problem with Mr Obama seems to think that fighting the drug trade is not a cool thing to do.

The drug lobby cunningly introduces an argument that people should themselves decide whether to take drugs or not. Drug taking is presented as a matter of personal choice, freedom to decide what is best for you. But if you consider the massive campaign that is openly conducted now to promote drugs, then it is not exactly a case of making a choice. It’s more a case of resisting the constant brainwashing that is going on.

It’s time to hit back at the drug mafia. It’s time to force the politicians to take drastic action and warn them that they face defeat at the polls if they don’t.
