   About the greek philosophers, the reason they a revered is because they went against the common cultural stigma of ‘we don’t understand this, must be the gods’ work’. It’s pretty irrelevant that most of their theories are flawed. The relevant thing is that they decided to figure stuff out for themselves and helped breed curiosity in ancient Greece. Also, they created most of the foundations of western philosophy and thought up the bases of current-day logic and deduction.
