Turning Pussy Riot Into A Political Act Blew The Liberal Left’s Cred To Shreds
Anton Goryunov writes from Moscow: It was pretty hilarious really, to watch lefties and atheists going apes..t over that Pussy Riot cheap stunt and the punishment they got. And it was even funnier to watch the video that the ‘girls’ (one of them is 29, by the way) had posted on YouTube. That footage alone basically said volumes about the so-called ‘protest’. The dancing, or rather jumping and gyrating, was especially hilarious and, if not for the location that the Pussies as they call themselves had chosen, it would have probably made the top spot in some list of the most idiotic gimmicks ever pulled off, considering the stupid clothes and the silly looking balaclavas.
One thing people in the West, who seem to be under the impression that the three women are some dissidents, should know here and now: all three have been doing their stuff, dressing up as idiots and gyrating to some loud sounds while screaming obscenities, before. And no one did anything to them then, even though on one occasion they ‘performed’ on Red Square. They were treated as attention grabbing freaks who were taking the piss in the vain hope of attracting some attention and making a few roubles out of it.
The Pussies have made one big mistake. They chose the wrong venue to stage their so-called protest. The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow, where they gyrated in front of the altar and screamed blasphemous obscenities, was built in the 1990s as an exact replica of the cathedral that was blown up on the orders of that communist punk, Joseph Stalin, in the 1930s. The old version of the cathedral was built on people’s donations, in honour of victory over Napoleon’s invading armies in the war of 1812-1814. The new version was recreated, again on public donations, as a symbol of opposing Stalinism and the determination never to allow it to happen again in Russia. By making fools of themselves at such a sacred place they could never have expected to get any serious support, apart from the ‘opposition forces’, as they call themselves, whom no one really treats seriously in Russia anymore.
The events surrounding the arrest and pre-trial detention of the Pussies had been distorted by the liberal media that is now 90 per cent of all media across the world, as it happens. The proceedings were delayed by the lawyers representing the three women, as the whole strategy was based on creating as much fuss around this trial as possible. If anyone doubts that the whole thing smacked of a PR stunt which went badly wrong, they might just as well believe that the Harry Potter stories were written based on real life events.
Was the two year sentence that each woman got a harsh one? I suppose it was. But the judge was obviously sending a clear signal to other punks, if you pardon the expression here: go do your stuff in places suitable for that sort of thing. In any case, the women will be freed very soon and I bet they know it.
But here’s something for the opposition in Russia, the Pussies and Western freedom loving media to chew on: the whole sorry affair did not damage President Vladimir Putin in the slightest. It actually improved his standing, simply because common sense dictated that the Pussies were wrong in what they did. But common sense is something that the liberal mob despises and rejects. And that is why the whole Pussy Riot saga blew up in their faces and tore their cred to shreds.

I’m not sure I understand. Protesting against a tyrannical, despotic regime and the corruption of the police in a communist country disagrees with this author? Why? And the statement “the judge was obviously sending a clear signal to other punks” means what? That all of you oppressed proletariat’s who are being suppressed and murdered by Putins regime are just a bunch of punks and you had just better settle down and like it? Why is this guy supporting the communists? Oh, that’s right. He’s a conservative.
So much for the love of freedom of speech and expression touted so often by conservatives. Why don’t you all just admit it, the only people whose voices you want to hear are those that agree with you. Your idea of freedom is limited to the same color, the same religion, and the same nationality.
