Adam Lovejoy writes from London: Let me sidestep the Christmas spirit for a moment and have a go at some people who do their damnedest to spoil the festive mood for millions, the miserable bastards.
At the top of my list are the politically correct zealots, who claim that the idea of celebrating Christmas is offensive to other religions, and outright atheists. This is a trick, of course, to divide Christians from others and make them feel embarrassed that they are imposing their traditions on people with different beliefs – and no beliefs. This is a lie peddled by the PC lot who pretend they are concerned for the feelings of non-Christians, even though the latter have never voiced their opposition to Christmas and are quite happy to see Christians celebrate their religious holiday. Political correctness generally is a vile thing that should have been made illegal a long time ago, but when it comes to religion it gets even worse and turns to blatant blasphemy and intolerance. Nasty lot, the PC brigade. Thrive on discord and disunity. Should be told to keep their traps shut during the festive season.
And then there are the hacks who spoil the Christmas spirit by peddling gloomy news because they are too lazy to go out and look for proper stories or too miserable to report something cheerful. At Christmas time, politicians – those other party-poopers – go on their undeserved holidays, and journalists, who like some parasites feed off politics during the year, find themselves deprived of the meaningless info with which they fill the airways and column inches. So they turn their attention to natural disasters, accidents, murders and all sorts of other gloomy subjects, to cover up for the lack of political news. And it all starts to look as if Christmas is all about doom and gloom and pretty much nothing else. It would be much better if hacks just stuck to short bulletins over the Christmas period, with newspapers skipping a week or two to let everyone enjoy themselves.
And then there’s the retail trade that is run by hypocrites who use Christmas to peddle junk made in China and other parts of the world famous for their cheap labour. Retail trade becomes very religious, all of a sudden, when Christmas time comes and, if given the freedom, would have kept all stores open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, to sell as much junk as possible. One look at all those ‘retailers’, as they call themselves, is enough to realise what sort of people they are: greedy inconsiderate bastards who will sell their mother if it means more profits for them and their shareholders. And this is the industry which is not really an industry as it does not produce anything or create proper jobs, but peddles stuff made overseas for extortionate prices. Retail trade is as far from the Christmas spirit as Tony Blair and Bill Clinton are from decency. And that’s very far off.
And then come the creeps who work in broadcasting. Yes, Christmas is the time when they show their true colours, bombarding viewers with filth and horror films and so-called comedies that are filled with blasphemous messages and sexual innuendoes. Look up the schedules of any TV channel for the Christmas period and you will find them filled with films and shows that are the exact opposite to Christmas. Horror films with Satanic imagery and sleazy comedies are aplenty this time of year. It’s as if the flow of filth intensifies tenfold the week running between Christmas and New Year. Coincidence? Nope, no way. All in the spirit of political correctness and atheist propaganda.
So the best way to keep your Christmas spirit high is to switch off the box, stop buying newspapers, refrain from buying useless junk and show two fingers to the PC brigade by having some fun with your friends and family. And that should keep your Christmas spirit alive.
Have a Merry Christmas everyone!
