Anton Goryunov reports from Tokyo: Japan is in the news again. Well, part of Japan at least, the one where the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant is housed that was damaged during the earthquake and tsunami back in March 2011 and should have never been built there in the first place, considering the seismic activity in those parts of the wood. This website, incidentally, has been reminding everyone that things were not going well at Fukushima in the past couple of years. But mainstream hacks were more preoccupied with other things, like peddling Western government propaganda on Syria or covering the life of celebs like Jennifer and Angelina.
Anyway, a lot of highly radioactive water has leaked from one of the steel containers built beside the Fukushima plant. As a result, the Japanese government was forced to raise the alert level to ‘serious’. That would be lever 3 on the scale of 7, although it might higher, considering that Japanese officials are no longer trusted with telling the truth about the situation
Mind you, radioactive leaks were happening regularly in the past two years but on this occasion it was an especially big one, with nearly 300 tonnes of contaminated water pouring out into the ground, so it became a story, for a while at least. Supposedly this toxic mix has not reached the sea but this sounds so unbelievable that no one really takes this seriously. Especially as lesser contaminated water has been leaking into the sea at a rate of a hundred tonnes a day regularly. And now the worry is that other containers would start leaking as well and two-headed fishes will be part of the healthy diet of millions of millions of Japanese.
But seriously, why is it that the free press has not been taking interest in Fukushima? We hear a lot of noises from hacks if a minor incident happens here or there, but for some reason they did not show the same keen interest in Fukushima polluting the hell out of the environment. Could it be that the Japanese government is not all that keen to accept that it hasn’t really mastered the running of its nuclear power industry? And could it also be that America is keeping the whole thing under wraps because it sold components of the nuclear reactors to Japan?
Not that long ago, in April actually, a team from the International Atomic Agency popped down to Fukushima, to have a quick look at the situation on the ground there. And one of the things they said that somehow didn’t make the headlines across the world was that the clean-up operation at the plant will take not 40 years, as the company that runs the place, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), says, but probably much longer. Probably closer to 100 years.
Exciting all of this, isn’t it? And there’s more. The Atomic Agency people said that that TEPCO is using ‘makeshift equipment’ to tackle the problems and really needs to come up with more effective solutions to start getting rid of the radioactive water that has built up below the plant. And that sort of sounds weird, considering that Japan has always boasted about how technologically advanced it is. (We were also told that Japan was a prosperous economic superpower but once we saw the footage of the devastation after that tsunami it turned out not to be the case at all.)
The funniest thing of all, in a tragic sort of way, is that Japanese officials and hacks, who feel they need to peddle the government’s line on things, say that although it was unfortunate that the Fukushima plant got damaged, there’s no proof that it has resulted in producing negative effects on the health of the people living in the area or caused any deaths since then. We are made to believe that from the point of view of adverse effects on people it was not such a big deal. And this in a country that resembles a socialist state to such a degree that it’s a wonder everyone is not calling each other ‘comrade’ yet, where information, it turns out, is not that easily released when it comes to Big Brother and the mistakes it makes. Yes, don’t pretend to be shocked. Japan is as socialist as it gets and has a military type of discipline and even its mob operates along the lines of the Russian Bolshevik party in its times under Comrade Lenin.
Funny world we live in.
