Adam Lovejoy reports from London: The left love the McCanns, Kate and Gerry, who’ve been leading a high profile campaign for the past 6 years to find their daughter, Madeleine, after she mysteriously vanished from their holiday apartment in the small Portuguese sea resort of Praia da Luz in Algarve. In fact, as you read this a team of 36 detectives from Scotland Yard are working on the case at a great expense to the British public, just because Prime Minister David Cameron is a leftie who likes everyone whom the left likes.
Yes, in case you didn’t know this, lefties are crazy about the McCanns, even though some supposedly right-wing publications, like the now defunct News of the World and the still existing Sun, have been very sympathetic to their cause. (Both rags were trying to make as much money as possible out of the Madeleine saga and it didn’t bother them in the slightest whether it was in good taste or not.)
Anyway, lefties always like to see parents exercising their right to have a good time, even if it means doing it at the expense of their children. The left generally has its own view on family life and basically treats marriage as an irritating obstacle to a life of enjoyment and healthy promiscuity. A liberated married couple, from the point of view of the left, should not be constrained by some old-fashioned rules and traditions. According to this logic, it would be much better if more couples lived in sin, without tying the knot and introducing all sorts of limitations on their freedom. That is why left-wing PC zealots are so insistent on dropping words like ‘husband’ and ‘wife’ and replacing them with the hideous term ‘partner’, as if it is some business arrangement. The left also places sexual intercourse and the pursuit of pleasure above all else in a ‘partnership’, putting the interests of children way down in this list.
So it’s no wonder that the left feel sympathetic towards the McCanns after tragedy struck, as both parents have ticked all the boxes in the list of leftie values when it comes to conducting their highly publicised campaign to find Maddy. Firstly and most importantly from the left’s point of view, Kate and Gerry have not accepted any responsibility for what had happened to their daughter, even though they left her alone on that fateful night and went to have dinner with their friends at a nearby restaurant. Not to mention that they refused the services of a nanny which were on offer at the place where they were staying. That was very leftish of them, for the idea of repentance is alien to lefties generally.
Secondly, the McCanns made their grief very public and resorted to methods that had been unheard of before in the history of child abduction, by turning themselves into global celebrities. Tens or maybe even hundreds of thousands of parents go through the same trauma as the McCanns around the world, but no one before them turned it into a some sort of global franchise, under the pretext of keeping the campaign to find their daughter in the public eye. The left likes these highly publicised manifestations of grief, as they go against common sense and decency that lefties despise so much. Plus, the whole celebrity culture is a left-wing thing through and through, creating false idols and profiting from them.
Thirdly, the book that Kate McCann published after Madeleine’s disappearance fitted perfectly into the perception of what a leftie would do under similar circumstances, especially mentioning that, unfortunately, the couple’s sex life has suffered since Maddy disappeared. For a devastated parent to admit to such a condition is so left-wing that it would probably be difficult to imagine what could be even leftier than that.
And, finally, the lefties simply love the ‘it’s all about me, me, me’ attitude that the McCanns demonstrate, refusing to accept that their games with public relations and constant banging on about how they are dedicated to finding their missing daughter upset millions of people who are grieving about the loss of their children in dignified privacy, often blaming themselves for it, and not having the same arrogance and support to continue raising the funds to keep going. (By the way, many brave parents have searched for their lost kids, selling their houses and other assets and not launching fancy charity appeals.)
So there you have it: the McCanns are typical idols of the left. A reflection of our times when people are encouraged by liberal thinking to use every opportunity to become famous, even if it is based around a tragedy.
