Yes, I’m talking about the handsome Michael Douglas and the lovely Catherine Zeta-Jones, obviously, the two movie superstars who’ve been happily married since 2000 and were supposedly going through a rough patch in their marriage for the past year or so. At least that was what the nasty tabloids were reporting. Nasty, nasty tabloids.
But now everything has been put in order. Michael, and I call him Michael and even Micky sometimes when I talk about him with my friends, told journalists at the screening of his wonderful film about Liberace, the gay entertainer, called Behind The Candelabra – gorgeous Matt Damon plays his lover in it – that he has no problems with his marriage and that he and Cathy – I call Zeta-Jones her Cathy when I discuss her with my friends – are still happily married and are just separated for a while. To test their feelings, like all good couple do. And that is alright, you know, because strong love needs to be tested. People can’t just go on being husband and wife and not test their attraction to each other. It would be silly, especially as Cathy and Micky have where to stay apart from each other. It’s not like they need to rent out a place or move into a hotel or live in a caravan or a tent.
Mind you, Michael did tempt his fate, if this is the right expression here, when he said that his recent throat cancer could have been caused by oral sex. I remember thinking then: what a man! Knows how to perform a cunnilingus on a girl. It’s so rare these days, men knowing how to please a woman orally. And I don’t mean conversation wise, because as regards conversation, very few guys can actually entertain a girl properly.
Which brings me to high profile couples and the strain on their marriage or partnerships that lack of conversation puts. I’m not saying here that Michael and Cathy have nothing to talk about. They both look very intelligent, witty and articulate. Well, at least Michael does. But if you look at many other celebrity couples, you can often catch signs of boredom with each other very soon after they tie the knot. Those small thing, you know, like not looking at each other and dating other people.
Yes, lack of conversation can be a killer for celebrity couples. Although Brad and Angelina have been staying silent for years and still love each other to death.
But I’m very happy for Cathy and Micky and hope their trial separation doesn’t last too long. Not like for ever.
