Ted Obvious reports from London: Well, well, well. Hacks in Britain finally overdid it with political correctness. High on diversity and multiculturalism, they really blew it reporting about that verdict on the Mark Duggan case, the black drug dealer who got shot by the police in the summer of 2011, resulting in mass riots in London and other places. This was some embarrassing moment, a string of moments actually, when mainstream hacks were inflaming the situation and playing into the hands of an angry mob. Some racial harmony we have in Britain, eh?
So what we had, people, is the free and impartial media responding to a verdict by the jury in an inquest that had been looking at the circumstances of the shooting dead of Duggan by armed police, and deciding that it was a ‘lawful killing’. Even though Duggan didn’t have a gun in his hand at the time, having thrown it out of the car’s window. But the talking heads and the scribblers had only one thing on their minds: a black guy got whacked by the police and his family was ‘angry’ that they didn’t get an illegally killed verdict. And who cares about anything else?
Tough, tough call for journos, who have developed a sixth sense by now, a sense of deep-rooted political correctness. Saves the time and trouble to report news impartially and professionally. Just give the people the well-oiled and tested PC format and you won’t have any problems. And to hell with common sense and logic1 Who needs them anyway? If keeping a job means looking the other way or throwing a bit of bias in, then so be it.
The fact of the matter was that Duggan was a member of a drug gang which had been under surveillance by the police. So it wasn’t exactly a situation when an innocent passer-by got into a cross-fire or was mistaken for a hood. He was actually one. And he chose that sort of ‘career’ himself. So he should have been prepared for s..t to happen at some point amd at some point it did.
But did any of the hacks point that out? Nope, they did not. They just kept on banging about the relatives getting ‘angry’ and the possibility of riots breaking out again. You know, angry protesters demanding justice and an end to racism. And that was pretty stupid. In an ideal situation heads should roll for that sort of news coverage.
The thing is, you see, that when mainstream media gets hijacked by political correctness, it’s no longer capable of performing its main function – delivering impartial news. And that’s what happened in Britain. And it can only get worse.
