How Come The Free Media Is So Shy About Covering Events In Libya?

How Come The Free Media Is So Shy About Covering Events In Libya?

Anton Goryunov writes from Benghazi: Pardon me for asking, but how come the free media is so shy about covering events in Libya? Or is it that all the attention has now been shifted to Syria and Libya is no longer of any interest, now that Gaddafi has been dealt with accordingly. (Incidentally, in Russia the view is that the war had been started by the West on request of several big banks that have squandered more than $100 billion of Libyan money that Gaddafi placed with them for investment purposes and couldn’t explain where it all went.) Anyway, the whole point of reporting about any war to introduce freedom to democracy starved nations, like it supposedly happened in the case of Libya as presented last year by the West, is not only to cover it during the build-up to hostilities and all...

Why Is It That So Many Good Causes Get Hijacked By Bad People?

Why Is It That So Many Good Causes Get Hijacked By Bad People?

R.F.Wilson writes from London: How come so many good causes get hijacked by bad people? We’ve seen it happen with frightening regularity in the past and it continues to happen now. Take human rights. I’ve got nothing against human rights. In fact, I’m all for them. But why is it that so many disgusting people hijack the good cause of promoting and safeguarding human rights and start milking it for all it’s worth? And eventually it results in lowlifes and scumbags jumping on the human rights bandwagon and pushing out decent people whose liberties and freedoms are trampled and abused. It’s just ain’t right. And how about anti-capitalist, or anti-globalists, as they like to call themselves? Sure, capitalism sucks and globalism sucks as well. But people, you can’t go on rampages...

So Many Questions, So Few Answers

So Many Questions, So Few Answers

R.F.Wilson writes from Honolulu: Questions, questions, questions. So many questions, so few clear answers to them. For example, why do we need the United Nations when it doesn’t really do anything or even when it does, it always fails miserably? And why do we need the European Union, if it’s only a bureaucratic monstrosity, staffed by unelected officials, who interfere in member nations’ affairs and have proven hopeless in sorting out the current debt crisis? And why is it that the so-called democracy that everyone is talking about only works for the few and doesn’t really benefit most people? And why do we need space exploration when we still can’t sort out the mess on Earth? Had enough of questions? Well, tough luck, because I’m not done yet. And what about wars started on...

Asking Silly Questions And Getting Silly Answers. And Proper Ones As Well

Asking Silly Questions And Getting Silly Answers. And Proper Ones As Well

Adam Lovejoy writes from Brussels: Here’s a question for you: do political rulers know what they are doing about the world economy going down the toilet? Mind you, it’s the sort of question that falls under the category ‘ask a silly question, get a silly answer’. And the silly answer would be: yes, politicians know how to get the economy working again and are trying their best to sort things out. But a proper answer would be completely different and go along the following lines: Of course politicians have no idea what to do about the current economic crisis – and it’s a crisis, make no mistake about it – as they are themselves part of the problem. Governments have colluded with the banks that caused a financial crash four years ago, bailing them out by blowing all that...

If You Were The Secret World Government Would You Allow Such Trash To Be Shown On The Box?

If You Were The Secret World Government Would You Allow Such Trash To Be Shown On The Box?

Anton Goryunov writes from Moscow: Here’s a question for you: if you were the secret world government (SWG), all powerful and influential, running things from behind the scenes, would you allow such crap to be shown on the box as we have now? Stay with me on this one, things will become clearer as I explain myself. Imagine that you are the SWG. You’d be worried now by the way things are shaping up around the world. The banks that are so close to your heart are once again in big trouble, having run up huge new debts while gambling on the markets, and there’s no money in the public purse to bail them out, like it happened several years ago, what with all the huge national debts and budget deficits. Sure, you have instructed the politicians to squeeze the taxpayers hard, to make up for the...

How Come Modelling Is Considered To Be A Proper Job?

How Come Modelling Is Considered To Be A Proper Job?

Ted Obvious writes from London: How is it that modelling is considered a proper job? Please, feel free to explain to me how is it that people, who put on silly looking clothes and parade them in front of easily excitable audiences, are taken seriously as some ‘professionals’? What do you actually need to learn or to know in order to become a model? Apart from mastering that stupid penguin walk and looking in front of you all the time like a zombie, pretending not to notice anyone in the room around you. And how come so many deeply revolting women become supermodels, even though you wouldn’t give them a second look if you pass them by on the street? I find it really weird that modelling has somehow become a highly rated occupation. OK, I can understand some silly cows, living on a council...

Ever Wondered What China Is Trying To Achieve In Iran? You Have? Read This Then

Martin McCauley writes from Beijing: China has a big problem. Yes, yes, don’t look surprised, even though China is all big and powerful, it still has its weaknesses. Communism is one. And widespread corruption is another. But we are going to talk about another problem that China has with half of its imported oil coming from Iran that is hell bent on acquiring nuclear weapons. Tehran knows that if it has nukes, it would be able to pursue a more aggressive foreign policy – and, even more importantly, get away with it. Iran dreams of recreating the Persian Empire and all its glories. China is its most important ally. Cynics would say its only ally. So, is Beijing helping Tehran to acquire nukes? No, of course not. Why not? Iran with nukes would be a loose cannon. It might even provoke Israel...

Japan An Economic Superpower? Pull Another One

Anton Goryunov writes from Tokyo: Have you heard the latest news from Fukushima? The situation at the nuclear plant has not been resolved yet, with the vast exclusion area continuing to operate and rumours abounding that radiation continues to leak into the atmosphere. The government, as everyone believes, is hiding the true state of things at the plant and it will take decades to sort out the mess. Why I mention all this, you may wonder. Well, it’s just that every time some highly developed and supposedly prosperous country gets knocked over by a big natural disaster, it becomes apparent that it’s not not really all that highly developed and prosperous. Take Japan: do you remember the news footage of the aftermath of the earthquake and the tsunami that had hit the north-eastern...

How Come In Our Civilized Times We Can’t Replace Dictators In A Civilised Way?

How Come In Our Civilized Times We Can’t Replace Dictators In A Civilised Way?

Anton Goryunov writes from Cairo: How is it that in our supposedly civilised times, with all that fancy diplomacy and high-tech channels of communications we still can’t replace dictators and avoid all those bloody uprisings and military conflicts? It just doesn’t look right, you know. It sort of shows that we are still a primitive bunch that can only resolve problems with bombs and missiles and sanctions that never hit the bad guys but always punish the ordinary people. As I look at the devastated Libya, at the bloody suppression of street protests in Syria and the continuing mayhem in Yemen and other countries in the Middle East and North Africa, I ask myself: why can’t we have orderly palace coups arranged, without all the shooting and killing? Why does it always have to turn into...

Pills To Stay Sober? And Why Not Invent Eye Drops That Kill Off An Erection?

R.F.Wilson writes from London: How about eye drops that kill of a good firm erection in a couple of seconds? Would any of you guys out there like to try that one? Yes, I thought you’d say ‘no’. Doesn’t really sound like a useful thing, does it? Just like I suppose an orgasm blocker lotion wouldn’t really excite too many people. Or how about a pill that makes you thick for a couple of hours, or maybe even longer? You know, one moment you’re intelligent and articulate and all that and then, you pop one of those babies, and in a matter of seconds you turn into a total retard. Start laughing loudly without any provocation, roll your eyes, take a keen interest in sport commentary all of a sudden and generally behave like an idiot. No? Doesn’t appeal to you? I wonder why that would...
