Adam Lovejoy writes from Brussels: As US Vice President Joe Biden comes to Europe to say things we ask: would you give this man a tenner, to carry it around for a while in his wallet and to return it to you at some point later? Of course not. And it wouldn’t be because you’d be afraid he’d steal it. No, the main worry would be that he’d lose it or invest it, along with other people’s tenners, into some dodgy scheme run by smooth-talking con-artists. With all respect to the office of the US Vice President, Mr Biden just doesn’t look like a smart kind of politician. In fact, he doesn’t even look much like a politician. Beijing would love to know who will win the contest to become the 44th President of the United States. So important is the election on November 4 that Ma Hui, the director for the Americas of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC attended the Democratic National Convention in Denver. It is now becoming apparent who are emerging as winners and losers from the war between Russia and Georgia over the breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.Let’s talk about the winners first. Washington is one of the big winners.
